GIGWELL: Presentation and Findings

GIGWELL was a project financed by the UK Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) (2020-2023) that connected GIG research to ‘welfare studies’ (WEL)–and explored whether and when the GIGs turned out WELL. It was run by the PI Dr Lorenza Antonucci and her team at the School of Social Policy of the University of Birmingham between 2020 and 2022. The project investigated and compared social policies and platform workers’ experiences and access to social protection in Italy, Sweden and the UK. The research consisted of analysing policies, interviewing platform workers about their insecurity and access to welfare, and continuing to collect qualitative information about their lives and welfare through a digital app.
